Durante la visita guiada de un colegio al Centro de Arqueología Experimental (CAREX), unos chavales encuentran el cuerpo de una joven en el lugar donde debería estar la réplica de un enterramiento neandertal. La joven es Eva Santos, una chica del pueblo cercano de Atapuerca, y está muerta. Su cuerpo está desnudo y colocado en posición fetal. During a school trip to the Center for Experimental Archeology (CAREX), a group of kids come upon a dead body where a replica of a Neanderthal burial site should be. It belongs to Eva Santos, a girl from the nearby village of Atapuerca. Naked and placed in fetal position, the grisly ritual crime scene is reminiscent of another murder that took place six years ago in the very same spot. The judge, Vázquez de Mella, assigns the case to the same police officers who covered the earlier murder: Silvia Gúzman, now the head of a police unit, and Daniel Velarde, a former cop who comes back on as an advisor.
