El primer matrimonio de personas del mismo sexo en España, después de la era imperial romana, se celebró el 8 de junio de 1901. Dos mujeres, Marcela Gracia Ibeas y Elisa Sánchez Loriga, intentaron casarse en A Coruña (Galicia). Para conseguirlo, Elisa tuvo que adoptar una identidad masculina: Mario Sánchez, tal y como apareció en el certificado de matrimonio.
The first same-sex marriage in Spain to take place after the Roman Imperial era occurred on 8 June 1901. Two women, Marcela Gracia Ibeas and Elisa Sanchez Loriga, attempted to get married in A Coruña (Galicia, Spain). To achieve it Elisa had to adopt a male identity: Mario Sánchez, as listed on the marriage certificate.
