Godofredo de Ibelin, caballero reconocido por el rey de Jerusalén ycomprometido con el mantenimiento de la paz en Tierra Santa, emprende labúsqueda de su hijo ilegítimo, Balian, joven herrero francés que llora laperdida de su mujer y su hijo.Balian cede ante su dolor y se une a Godofredo en su misión sagrada.
