Donostia, 1960. Jesusa Ibarrola quiere comprar unos zapatos a su hija Begoña, de 20 meses. Deja a la niña al cuidado de su tía Soledad en la Estación de Amara. Pero estalla una bomba, matando a Begoña. La justicia franquista cierra el caso sin detener a nadie, y cae en el olvido. En el año 2000 Ernest Lluch devuelve a la actualidad esta historia, cuando hace una polémica revelación: afirma haber descubierto que Begoña fue la primera víctima de ETA. En 2010 el Congreso de los Diputados la reconoce oficialmente como la primera víctima mortal de esta banda terrorista. El caso parece esclarecido definitivamente. Sin embargo, algunos historiadores cuestionan esta versión, señalando al DRIL, una olvidada y misteriosa organización terrorista, integrada por exiliados españoles y portugueses, y apoyada por el Che Guevara y el régimen castrista.

San Sebastián, 1960. Jesusa Ibarrola wants to buy shoes for her 20-month-old daughter Begoña. She leaves the child in the care of her aunt Soledad at Amara Station. But a bomb explodes, killing the little girl. Franco's justice system closed the case without identifying the culprits and it fell into oblivion. In 2000, Ernest Lluch brought the story back into the news when he made a controversial revelation: he claimed to have discovered that Begoña was the first victim of ETA. In 2010, the Congress of Deputies officially recognised her as the first mortal victim of this terrorist group. The case seems to have been definitively cleared up. However, some historians question this version, pointing to a forgotten and mysterious terrorist organisation, made up of Spanish and Portuguese exiles, and supported by Che Guevara and the Castro regime: the Directorio Revolucionario Ibérico de Liberación. Based on this case, Death in Amara sets out to solve the enigma and identify the real culprits behind Begoña's murder.
