FORMENTOR, EL MAR DE LAS PALABRAS

   catálogo cinespañolicono del icaa

  • EXTENDED SYNOPSIS

FORMENTOR – A SEA OF WORDS is a commissioned documentary by the Barceló Hotel Group about possibly his most charismatic and most historic hotel: The Formentor Hotel in Mallorca, known as the “Hotel of the stars”.
Located in one of the most important areas of the island, facing the idyllic Formentor Beach, is a glorification of culture and respect for the environment. A hub for artists and the destination of great personalities of the 20th century who came in search of inspiration: Audrey Hepburn, Dalai Lama, Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly and Rainier of Monaco... and especially writers such as the winner of the novel award Mario Vargas Llosa, who wrote one of his most remembered books at the hotel.
Its origin dates back to the 20s, when Argentinian Adan Diehl, avant-garde cult visionary, nature and art lover, was captivated by the poems in which Miquel Costa y Llobera professed their love for Formentor. Having decided to respect nature and encourage art, he purchased a large area of Formentor and moved there with his wife. In 1929, Hotel Formentor became a reality. Writers, painters and musicians visited from all over the world. Years later, the Boadas family took the baton from Diehl and consolidated the hotel´s philosophy of being a shelter for creative minds and a forum for debates and reflections. And nowadays it’s the Barceló Group that manages the hotel.
Our documentary portrays the 90-year history of the hotel, and its special relationship with culture, led by great figures of culture in love with the hotel, such as the pianist Lang Lang, the orchestra director Gustavo Dudamel, the actress and singer Jane Birkin, the soprano Ainhoa Arteta or the famous writers Mario Vargas Llosa, Roberto Calasso and Annie Ernaux among others.
