En febrero de 1939 la historia de Argeles, un pueblo tranquilo de pescadores, cambia de repente. Cataluña fue ocupada por las tropas fascistas, 465.0000 refugiados huyen cruzando la frontera. Las autoridades francesas ordenan la construcción de uncampamento en la playa...La película evoca la existencia del campo de concentración de Argeles sur Mer (Pirineos Orientales), desde su creación en enero de 1939 hasta su cierre en septiembre de 1941. En 1939, cineastas y activistas, conmocionados por este campo, lograronpasarde contrabando una cámara detrás de la alambrada. Las pocas imágenes tomadas directamente del campo de Argeles se filmaron con cámara oculta y muchas fueron incautadas y destruidas.“El Campo de Argeles” propone recrear estas imágenes perdidas y entremezclar la vida del campo con imágenes de archivo y testimonios recogidos en toda Europa: ex internados en el campo (los republicanos españoles, Judíos...) y también guardias ytestigos.

The French authorities ordered a camp to be built on the beach ….This film recalls the existence of the concentration camp in Argeles sur Mer (Western Pyrenees), from its creation in January 1939 until its closure in September 1941. In 1939 filmmakers and activists, shaken by what they knew of this camp,managedtopass a camera through the wires. The few images of the Argeles camp taken directly were filmed with hidden cameras and many were confiscated or damaged.“The Argeles Camp” sets out to recreate these lost images and intermingle life in the camp with images from archives and first-hand accounts gathered from all over Europe: ex-inmates from the camp (Spanish republicans, Jews..) and also guards andwitnesses.
