En 1894 Arturo Soria pone la primera piedra de la Ciudad Lineal. Organizada en torno al tranvía, la Ciudad Lineal ofrecía "a cada familia una casa, en cada casa un huerto y un jardín". Soria fue inventor, político, periodista, pero sobre todo elcreadorde la Ciudad Lineal, a la que dotó de hospitales, teatros, un velódromo-aeropuerto, la primera revista de urbanismo del mundo, pero sobre todo un lugar donde las desigualdades sociales se redujeron y se vivía en contacto con la naturaleza.

In 1894 Arturo Soria placed the first stone of Ciudad Lineal. Organised around the tram, Ciudad Lineal offered “each family with a home, a fruit orchard and a garden in every house". Soria was an inventor, a politician, journalist, but above allthecreator of Ciudad Lineal, which he outfitted with hospitals, theatres, a velodrome-airport, the first town planning magazine of the world, but especially a place where social inequalities were reduced and people lived in contact with nature.
