Madagascar es uno de los paises más pobres del mundo. La principal perjudicada por esta situación es la mujer, que ha de soportar el machismo imperante en la sociedad malgache, sufriendo algunas de ellas maltratos y el abandono por parte de susmaridos.Sin recursos económicos de ningún tipo, sobreviven en las calles a base de realizar pequeños trabajos o gracias a la mendicidad practicada por ellas mismas y por sus hijos; en algunos casos, incluso se ven obligadas a prostituirse.

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. The main people affected by this situation are the women, who have to put up with prevailing male chauvinism in the Madagascan society, some of them suffering abuse and being abandoned bytheirhusbands. Without any economic resources of any kind, they survive on the streets, doing little jobs or thanks to money received from begging by them or their children; in some cases they resort to prostitution.
