1915. In a small city in Turkey, the war and persecutions against the Armenianminority seem distant. The Avakian family is Armenian and opens its beautifulhouse for the funeral of its patriarch. After many years the eldest son,Assadour, who works as a doctor in Padua, returns from Italy. His father hasleft him the old Lark Farm. Meanwhile Nunik, an exuberant young woman is in asecret relationship with Egon, a young Turkish officer and a member of the“Young Turks” party which is secretly organizing itself to make the myth of“The Great Turkey” come true. In May, Italy allies with France against Austriaand the Ottoman Empire. The borders are closed and Assadour tries,unsuccessfully, to leave Italy. He has to stay while in Turkey the party of the“Young Turks” orders the massacre of the Armenians.
