He travelled to Madrid on numerous occasions, with great verve and thirst for knowledge, to gain inspiration for his own work from importantwriters. He met José María Cossío, García Lorca, Pablo Neruda and Vicente Aleixandre, but nothing would shape his life and aesthetic evolution as much as the love that would move from the divine to the human when he met Josefina Manresa. Involved in eventsinSpain between 1936 and 1939, he saw the need to write poetry as propaganda. Tragic experiences, such as the death of his first son, or the hardships of the Civil War, leave us with profound work such as ´Nanas de la cebolla´ (´Onion Lullaby´).Faithfulto his military past, he refused to ascribe to the new regime and died in prison in 1942, as, after long moral and physical destitution, he succumbed to tuberculosis at just 32 year of age.
