Hace treinta años en Yeserías, antigua cárcel de mujeres, Elena Cánovas, funcionaria de prisiones y licenciada en arte dramático, se animó a romper las rejas y a llevar el teatro a la prisión, creando con las internas del penal el grupo “Teatro Yeses”. Esta es la historia de su recorrido. Y también es una reflexión sobre la capacidad terapéutica y liberadora del teatro, una herramienta que ha permitido a decenas de presas conocerse, educarse y aprender a valerse por sí mismas.

Thirty years ago in Yeserías, the former Madrid women´s prison, a civil servant and graduated from Drama School named Elena Cánovas founded ´´Teatro Yeses´´, a drama company formed by female inmates. This is the story of their journey. And it is as well a meditation on the therapeutic and liberating character of drama, whose practice has helped women to get in touch with their emotions. As well as an education, theater gave them the ability to fend for themselves.
