La gesta de la Brigada Lincoln es conocida. Compuesta por dos mil ochocientos norteamericanos, la brigada Lincoln acudió a defender en 1936 la república española, junto con cerca de 50.000 voluntarios llegados de 54 países. Lo que apenas se sabeesquedentro de aquellos voluntarios figuraban ochenta y cinco afroamericanos que acudieron al combate para luchar contra el racismo y por los derechos civiles que les negaban en su propio país. Esta es su historia, una página inédita de la historia deEstados Unidos y España. La peripecia de unos héroes invisibles que acudieron a una guerra lejana para luchar por su libertad.Basado en entrevistas al veterano afroamericano James Yates y a varios veteranos de la Brigada Lincoln, “Héroes Invisibles” cuenta con la participación de historiadores y expertos de España y Estados Unidos, la utilización de imágenes de archivoinéditas y la filmación en los escenarios históricos de Misisipi, Chicago, Nueva York, en EEUU y de Madrid, Levante, Aragón, Cataluña y Pirineos, en España.
Many know the endeavors of the Lincoln Brigade. In 1936 two thousand eight hundred North Americans volunteered to defend the Republic of Spain, joining their struggle to about 50,000 other volunteers coming from 54 countries across the world. Butwhatmost do not know is that among the American volunteers there were eighty-five African Americans who also answered that call, fighting in Spain against racism and for the civil rights that were denied to them in their own country. This documentary presents the deeds of these invisible heroes who fought for their freedom in a far away war.Based on interviews with the veteran African American volunteer James Yates and the participation of other veterans of the Lincoln Brigade, the documentary Invisible Heroes also includes interviews with historians and experts from Spain and theUS.Seldom seen archival footage and new recordings produced in the historical sites in Mississippi, Chicago, New York, and several locations in Spain are included in the documentary.
